Reasons for Superman’s Power; a Father’s Magic Gift

Our fathers are supermen. For instance, my father used to go to Toastmasters meetings which promote communication, public speaking, and leadership. He would take my sister and me sometimes. From this, I learned the reasons for superman’s power.

At the meetings, people would give speeches while others evaluated them. My favorite part was a clicker to note overused words or filler sounds. The clicker helps improve speech patterns and is hilarious chirping someone mid-speech. The thing clicked you ten times buddy, wrap it up.

One time, my dad brought me to model a baseball swing while he spoke about it. I was maybe five or eight and stood on a boardroom table, a live prop, while an adult waited to chirp with the clicker. They should have clicked my baseball swing.

I’d grumble about going, but these meetings were a gift from my father. I watched him stand up in front of people and talk, a superhuman act to me. He stumbled or didn’t use the word of the day, a human error. And by being human but doing it anyway, he exemplified a superhero.

Fathers are supermen

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a dad making XL pancakes.

Fathers are examples and role models. They are champions, problem solvers, and leading men. They carry you on their shoulders for hours at the zoo while you complain the cheetahs weren’t out running at full speed that day.

The role doesn’t come with trophies or envelopes to open, but it is crucial to our lives. Children view their fathers as giants—the pinnacle of excellence. Mighty and omniscient, these supermen are the standard for which we strive.

Fathers are human

The prince returns from play one day and receives the king’s crown and throne. For the new king or father, the training courses are not like the experience.

A father is the same person as before, yet with more responsibility. His life is more challenging, and people expect perfection. Importantly, kids idolize him now.

Our fathers receive criticism for many things. Some warranted, others not as much. For example, if Godzilla threw our hero into a building while he saved the world, we’d criticize, “Why would you ruin that building?” And our fathers mess up, massive at times. That is to say, these men are imperfect, and with their outsized role in our lives, their mistakes have an outsized impact.

They do an impossible task, and they stumble. However, that imperfection is crucial for us to recognize. It’s one of the reasons for superman’s power.

Father’s show us how to be supermen

Our fathers are human, like us, and do their responsibilities anyway. Because of that responsibility, we should celebrate their imperfection. By commemorating their cracks, we strengthen the core. A human hefting that burden without superpowers is superhuman.

As we grow, it’s our turn to take that responsibility. We can shoulder the burden placed on these men by owning our relationship with them.

If we’re to become adults, mother and father figures ourselves, it’s essential to recognize the impossible task we place on our parents. They do it anyway. And that impossible task, to be a superhero, is ours as well.

To me, it starts with compassion for our own heroes’ flaws. And the recognition that they gave us so much more.

The reasons for superman’s power

My point is, our fathers are valuable. Their lives are the foundation we build our own on.

These supermen set our example of how to be and who to be. To put it another way, they dominate our world.

But they’re human. And these humans have emotions, flaws, and dreams. They’re not immovable or unstoppable.

However, their accomplishments are superhuman because they’re human. They do it without powers or extra abilities.

As a kid, I saw my dad practicing talking. Now, I recognize he showed me much more. For those things, I appreciate and am grateful to my father. And because he let me use the chirper.

  1. As my Dad said about his experience in Korea, everyone was scared, the heroes did their jobs despite it.
